DULUTH, GA (January 7, 2020) - Georgia United Foundation is pleased to provide free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for the Athens and Dalton communities thanks to a longstanding partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Dalton State College, University of Georgia (UGA) and Georgia United Credit Union.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is open to all low
to moderate income taxpayers, without depreciable assets, business losses or extensive stock transactions. Dalton State and UGA students are IRS-certified tax preparers and earn academic credit for their participation in the VITA program. As part of the partnership, office space is provided by Georgia United Credit Union.
Appointments can be reserved online at gucufoundation.org/vita and will be held at Georgia United Credit Union’s Athens branch, located at 190 Gaines School Road, and at their Dalton branch, located at 605 Calhoun Street.
Appointments are available on the following days:
· Athens, January 25 – April 11, 2020: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings, 5:15 pm to 9 pm, by appointment only; Saturdays, 9 am – 1 pm, walk-ins are welcome but space is limited. Closed March 7-14 for spring break.
· Dalton, January 24 – March 7, 2020: Friday evenings, 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm; Saturdays, 9 am to 4 pm, by appointment only.

Since the program’s inception in 2005, the VITA partnership has filed 20,248 tax returns totaling $18,131,999 in federal and state refunds for the Athens and Dalton communities.
