Five Schools to Receive Facility Makeovers by Georgia United Foundation

Duluth, GA (May 6, 2020) – Georgia United Credit Union Foundation is excited to announce the recipients of their seventh annual School Crashers® program. School Crashers is the Foundation’s largest community service program that offers schools across the state the opportunity to apply for a school facility makeover. The program brings together communities by supporting local school systems with the end goal of improving the learning environment for the students, faculty and staff.


Georgia United Foundation opened the School Crashers program nominations in March to to all accredited K-12 schools in Georgia. Interested schools were asked to include a photograph along with a 250-word essay explaining why their school should receive a makeover. Though schools were unexpectedly ordered to close mid-March due the coronavirus pandemic, over 200 nomination submissions for this year’s program were received. After a rigorous judging process, the following schools have been named to receive facility improvements over the summer:

B.B. Harris Elementary School in Duluth

  • Hillcrest Elementary School - Dublin, GA - Playground

  • New Hope Middle School- Dalton, GA - Sensory Room

  • B.B. Harris Elementary School- Duluth, GA - Playground

  • Jolly Elementary School - Clarkston, GA - Playground

  • Walnut Grove Elementary School, Suwanee, GA - PreK Accessibility Playground


“Over the last six years, School Crashers has provided 43 makeovers with improvements valued over $1,300,000. We look forward to our seventh year of serving our communities and strengthening our school systems by providing inspiring learning spaces for students to experience when they return to school this fall,” stated Debbie Smith, Georgia United CEO and president.

The schools will work with Georgia United this summer to complete their requested improvement projects. Georgia United team members, local communities, donors and business partners, look forward to volunteering to help improve the learning environments for the students at these schools. All volunteer efforts will follow
