community impact

Service is built into our culture at Georgia United and our Foundation. Our goal is to positively impact the lives of our members, team members and communities we serve.  During these unprecedented times, our Foundation is continuing to support our communities during the coronavirus pandemic to ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need. Together, we can make a difference.

Healthcare Heroes

To show their appreciation of the frontline workers, Georgia United Credit Union and its Foundation launched a Healthcare Heroes initiative to provide care packages to seven community hospital partners.  As part of the initiative, a monetary donation was made to the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation to help purchase supplies, including eye cooling masks and compression socks, for frontline workers at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton. service days

For this year’s Team Day in February, over 370 Georgia United team members selected 25 local 501(c)(3) organizations they wished to serve. The credit union’s Foundation allocated funds for each of the charities and encouraged their team members to leverage the resources in a manner they felt would make the biggest impact. Team members provided a variety of support to their chosen charities such as building personal care kits, donating gifts, purchasing items for household use, serving meals, and providing a day of fun and enjoyment to those who have fallen on desperate times. school crashers®

Even with a pandemic and schools temporarily closed across the state of Georgia the foundation continued to award School Crashers grants. In 2020 seven schools were selected to receive facility improvement grants focused on several playgrounds receiving new equipment, two media centers getting new carpet, and a special education sensory room for middle school students. In addition, team members had the opportunity to help with these grant improvement projects by helping prepare media center spaces for new carpet, paint the walls of the sensory room, and help with manual labor outdoors on the playground. Georgia United continues to give back through providing volunteers to assist with the labor to complete these grant projects too. Over the last seven years, Georgia United Credit Union and its Foundation have awarded School Crashers grants to 50 schools totaling $1.4 million.
